Production Insights
It took nearly two months of planning and preparation before Chhaava began its journey into filming in the big cinema halls. This show began shooting in October of the year 2023, and wrapped up in May of the subsequent year.” During the shooting, the filmmakers went to many historical towns such as the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Ratnagiri, Pune, Nashik, Paithan, and so on in order to set beauty. Sheetal Sharma, the costume designer, got authentic Paithani sarees and Edward used the 500-year-old borders to recreate Pankaja for Rashmika Mandanna. Accoutrements were collected from Kolhapur, Sawantwadi and Ratnagiri etc. The team also replicated historical components of the show such as the sword Bhavani and the designs were referred from museums in London. Sambhaji was portrayed by Vicky Kaushal and according to the director it’s an attempt to keep it as close to history as possible which is why busts and statues were used as a reference.
Training and Preparation
Lakshya Rathee of Mohit Surroya Films watched over the preparation part as to how the actor Vicky Kaushal to get ready for the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj where it is to be seen that the actor really avoided trainer and gained 25- kg for the role of the Maratha warrior; he trained him sword fighting and horse riding etc. He learnt the sword, stick and spear fighting, et al for 6-7months. Lucky co-star Santosh Juvekar also accompanied him for horse-riding practice on localities in the outskirts of Mumbai.
Music

It made its first look on Raksha Bandhan, August 19, 2024 as a teaser and the actual trailer launched on January 22, 2025 giving a sneak peek of the impending big story for its viewers.
A Touch of Humor
More in humour during the shoot, Rashmika Mandanna said she found Vicky Kaushal warm and kind right till the penultimate day of the shoot. Vicky said in response, “If the first three questions could not contain me, then I guess I saved the best for the last.” Moreover, the team was received with some discontent when a scene of Sambhaji and Yesubai dancing The previous scenes’ flow clearly demonstrates the preparedness of the team to take on tricky dramatic material. Director Laxman Utekar thought it worthy to cut the sequence from the film though he jokingly added that history sometimes requires some tweaking for it as well.
