Introduction

The Bollywood movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) came out in 2011 and was directed by Zoya Akhtar. The main cast are Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Abhay Deol while the females are Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin. It is a good movie especially in terms of adventure and friendship and self discovery. The main plot actually focuses on ten days’ car trip of three friends: Marcus, his friend Dean and girl Alicia across Spain and each of them has own problems in their lives. They get to deal with their frights, clarify their identities, and learn the paramount importance of embracing the present.

Plot Overview

The movie starts with an up-close view on three friends, Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), Kabir (Abhay Deol), and Imran (Farhan Akhtar), who accept a girls-proposal about the trip to Spain. Kabir is med to get married and so he takes this trip with his friends before getting setteled in marriage. It was to be a vacation or a fun time for them before Kabir’s wedding, and hence was strict with time. But the road becomes much more than a simple holiday as each friend faces the challenge, which was in himself or herself.

Arjun, a guy who is living a life in New York, is in a job of an investment banker; he is rich but selfish, rude and busy in his work only. He has no leisure for the rest of life, feelings, or love, or whatever one cares for. While others represent optimism, another man, Kabir, is about to marry the woman of his dreams but feels uncertain about the future. Imran, the wanderer and a carefree poet, does carry his emotional insecurity and a mysterious past. They both come across a woman named Laila, who is probably the only source of interpersonal relationship that helps Arjun get over his phase and regress back to his natural self. The movie eventually progresses as each of the characters change and moves closer to a realization of what they want, what scares them and the value of the now.

Friendship and Bonds

A good part of the story in ZNMD which I pointed out earlier is the friendship that exists between the three main characters of the movie. The theme that is recurrent in the film is the significance of Friendship, by the use of those friends who stand by each other during happiness and hardships. The friends in the movie may again have different personalities and issues but that history between them and support they give to one another are the essential ingredients. This bond is also toyed around with at different stages in the movie yet it is strengthened to serve as an important growth motivation.

Self-Discovery

The movie shows the process of changing the protagonists’ personalities’ transformation. Henley, a bad boy with his head firmly buried in the world of revenues, is faced with the fact of his materialism and has to get a job. During the stint on the road, he unlearns the closed fist and learns to allow the possibility to dawn in his life. , young and seemingly successful Kabir suddenly starts to doubt his readiness for marriage and confusion about what he wants in life. Imran, the main character who uses jokes, tries to avoid pain in his life, in the last episode, he realizes the importance of feelings and becomes able to control them.

Skydiving

I think that it is quite realistic for this scene to be one of the most memorable of the film – the three friends go skydiving. In this particular activity for Arjun depicts his anxiety of loss control and taking further risk. Although he failed, he realize that job of life is to trust the process and embrace change after being a control freak throughout his life. The scene of skydiving can be looked at as liberating oneself from the fears and opening up to life’s opportunities. It is a significant phase in characterization of Arjun and the film lets the watchers explore it as a process that leads towards self-discovery.

Bull Run in Pamplona

The second outstanding episode in the picture can be traced back to one of the bull-running festivals in Pamplona, Spain. For this character – Kabir, this means going ahead with his wedding and being willing to take on life and the responsibility that is associated with it. Cinematic Elements

Themes in the film are well supported by the directorial job, script and camera work. The Spanish environment is depicted especially the beautiful beaches, the countryside and the littleness of open country understandings which make the characters’ getting developed. This feature of the movie has seen Shankar Ehsaan Loy compose the sound track with the feel of “Senorita” and “Khabon Ke Parinday” to give flavour to the movie.

The acting is superb and each of the main stars can easily be remarked for a marvelous effort. I feel that Hrithik Roshan has done a great job in portraying Arjun where from the mechanical workaholic guy to the guy enjoying life though occasionally he argues that he has no time for this. Farhan Akhtar and Jackie Bhagnani as Imran and Bade, respectively, lighten up the otherwise serious and ponderous confused identity in life of Imran, and Abhay Deol as mobile-phone bazooka man Kabir deepen some emotions in the film.

 

Conclusion

The movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is not a simple road trip movie but the exploration of life itself and limited nature of it which needs to be enjoyed to the fullest, with friends. All three main characters manage to open themselves and learn the ways of defeating their fears and accepting the reality by the movie’s end during the main characters’ journey across Spain. The main problem of the movie is that it tells viewers the story which is inspiring and gives a hope that life is good that should be lived fully, and that friendship is one of the most valuable things, as well as every person is unique and should find his/her calling. The message call for people to live in joy and open doors at every opportunity is a message that is strongly etched in the minds of people to make every moment count without regretting.
